One of the first questions people ask me when I tell them I’m an acupuncturist is: “How does that work?” I’d like to think that I explain the basics of it fairly well, but I also know that people have short attention spans. Thirty seconds is nowhere near enough time to cover everything, and this site is my way of having a little more time with those who are curious about traditional Chinese medicine (TCM).

In this blog, I’ll be oversimplifying acupuncture and Chinese medicine using analogies, diagrams, and other tools, so that people may better understand the logic behind this ancient healing art and be more open to it. My posts are not meant to demean Chinese medicine or make it seem easy but rather to clarify aspects of it in order to make it more relatable.

If you are new to this site, head to navigation to get an idea of where everything is, or look up specific terms by using the searchbox in the upper righthand corner. I create links between related pages so that you can easily move from one to the other and quickly look up definitions of words that might seem strange to you. (For instance, while reading about meridians, you might wonder what qi is and want to check it out.) I’m not the most technology-oriented person, though, so if you still have questions about anything on this site, feel free to contact me. Unfortunately I do not update this site often because I’ve started another blog on my clinic’s website BeachsideAcupuncture.com. You’re still more than welcome to peruse this site, but I’d also recommend that you sign up for my clinic’s newsletter if you’re interested in more up-to-date information and tips!

Disclaimer: Chinese medicine is complex; licensed acupuncturists spend at least three years in school learning this system of medicine and often barely even touch the surface of the deeper meanings of what is written in the classics. This blog won’t make you an expert, but it will give you a general idea of what acupuncture does and how it can help. This blog is not meant to teach you to diagnose or treat yourself or others but rather to explain concepts and give diet and lifestyle tips. If you feel you do need an actual treatment, you can book with me or find an acupuncturist near you through the NCCAOM or another reputable source.
